The development of the road network in North-East (NE) states of India is of utmost importance in the country. The Government of India (GOI) has set a Special Accelerated Road Development Programme for North-East (SARDP-NE) under the 12th five year plan (April 2012-March 2017), aiming to develop the national road network between the major cities in the area.

The Project aimed at improving the road connectivity within the North-East region of India and with other areas by improving and constructing national highways (including bridges) in the region, thereby contributing to the economic development in the region.

Engineering survey work for JICA Preparatory study for NE road network connectivity improvement project (Phase 2) was awarded to M/s BPC India Pvt. Ltd.

The purpose of the work was to carry out the road alignment survey works, investigation drilling and relevant laboratory tests at several landslide terrains,to collect subsurface information for preliminary design for roads, landslide preventing works and a bridge along NH40 from Shillong to Dawki in Meghalaya State, India and to collect the information for traffic volume forecast.
